With tthe DACA program, ending under Trumps administration it has been one of the major decisions against the undocumented community. He was prone to do that since during his trail for president he voiced his disapproval against the undocumented communityand talked about the changes that he was willing to make so that immigration would no longer be a problem for America and his whole “Make America Great Again” rhetoric that he continously preaches.

During these rigorous political climate both democrats and republicans have clearly voiced their opinions on immigration. Currently you have the democrats controlling the House and then the republicans are the ones in charge of the Senate. With these in mind in the current news it mentioned how a anti-immigrant bill (HB527) was just passed in the House and another bill (SB168) is heading to the Senate and these could potentionally mean that it could be brought up for a final vote on to the Senate floor.

In update for what has happened to both anti-immigrant bills the bill SB168 was passed in the Rules Committee in Florida and all democrats voted against it but all republicans voted to move it forward. And now these means that these bill is now heading to the house and it’s so close to being signed into law by the Florida’s governor.

And now that the majority of Florida Republicans are responsible for passing both bills that will sanction the racial progfiling of members of the undocumented community which will result in our undocumented neighbors , friends and loved ones will be erased and deported at a higher rate if this bill becomes law. Since SB168 would force local law enforcement to collaborate with ICE and CBP. And HB527 will mean that local government and their police departments (even campus police departments) would be required to hold an even be require to transport immigrants to ICE and CBP facilities.

These kind of bills makes me think that eventough we have made progress still the people in power are demanding anti-immigrant laws because of their xenophobia and lack of understanding the immigrant community holding an important role in America. It also makes me more aware to see the following candidates in my own state so I can be more attentive also during Midterm elections, eventough I can’t vote since I am not a citizen I still want to be aware or the kind of candidates no matter the importance I really want to know who will be in power especially if they have xenophobic ideals toward the immigrant community because I will know how to educate others who are able to vote and let their voice hear if they are candidates who only look forward to harm the immigrant community instead of helping them. We have as an example the current president who is in office and his anti-immigrant rhetoic and cabinet decisions speak for themselves about their personal feelings against the immigrant community.

In recent news the Secretary of Homeland Security resigned. Her name is Kirstjen Nielsen;the person head responsible for family seperations at the border and keeping children in cages and poor conditions in Detention Centers decided to resigned. Rumors say it was because the President and his admainistration were frustrated with the increase numbers of immigrants coming in as they have still were able to cross the southern border. And due to frustration from the President and his administration they were and still are pushing for more rigoruous policies to prevent more immigrants from coming to the United States.

Since the former Secretary of the Deparment of Homeland Security could not fullfill the rigorus requirements to crack down on immigration more than what the administration is doing with kids in cages and detention centers being to it’s max capacity so she decided to resign because based on the current president’s crack on immigration she was not doing enough to help put more people in detention centers, deport people at a faster rate, prevent immigrants from coming across the border and restricting refuguess or asylum seekers from getting help to go through the process of seeking asylum in America.

Her resigning leaves me and the undocumented community in a limbo since I don’t know who the president will now appoint and to be honest at the same time it’s a bit scary because we have seen how many members of the current presidents administration who aren’t clearly qualified to be in the positons they are holding. Out of so many people in office who I personally think aren’t qualified to hold their position we have for example, the secretary of education Betsy DeVos, who was appointed under the current president and is not at all qualified to be the secretary of education. Like many of other people who were hired under the current president aren’t as qualified you really don’t know what they might doing so who knows who will be hold that position next.

Since the president wants to be more rigorous in stopping immigrants from coming in at the same time deport them at fast rates. I am unsure if the next person who gets appointed to these position might or might not takemore drastic mesaurres to accomodate the presidents wishes;keeping people from being able to get across the border by enforcing resources to the border to strengthen it so it can decrease the number of people who get to U.S soil (and not allowing to ask for asylum) and contiously deport immigrants at a faster pace.

During class the video Adam ruins everything it focused on immigration and how the idea of building a wall in the Souther Border of Mexico and the United States is both a waste of money and time.As mentinoed in the video the wall would go through 2,000 miles of rough terrain that woulld have to go through rivers, villages casuing a lot of destruction and areas in which the wall might be harder to build in certain areas like around/through villages and rivers. If the wall is build it would be one of the most expensive and unecessary infrastructure in American History because as the video mentioned it would cost around $15-$25 billion dollars not to mention the cost to maintain the wall which would mean that generations that follow would need to pay for the wall too. [It is absurd that Americans who voted for the current President thought based on him saying that Mexico would pay for the wall but no it’s going to be Mexico its going to be Americans and their kids and so on and on. Why would the idea of building the wall that the current president mentioned and wants to make happen would result in Mexico pay.]

A wall through history has been from time to time been seen as not sucessful. Increasing security at he border as mentioned in the video will never stop immigration. You have to look at those around 27%-40% of undocumented immigrants that legally come throuhg passport control and overstayed visas through plane. For immigrants building a wall/reinforcing the border is not something that would stop immigrants from coming to the United States if they are fleeing for safety reasons it only means immigrants will struggle more to get here but it’s not worth not trying for them.

The video touched upon how the U.S Immigration Court System is a true caos because it is a underfunded court system you have only 57 immigration courts and around 489,000 cases. Meaning that judges can get fired if they are not going fast through cases causing people to not be fully heard. You have kids who have no representation in front of a judge. There are also the language barrier for immigrants who sometimes are given a translator but over the phone which means there are a lot miscommunication if they can’t fully hear. And it’s sad to know that people aren’t being represented or given an opprtunity to fight their case properly simply because they are immigrants.

I had previously watched these video and Adam really debunked a lot of myths for people who are for the wall and what that actually means in the future than what they actually want to happen. They want for immigrants to stop coming but building a wall is not quite the answer as mentioned in the video and deporting people just shows how cruel Americas can be to immigrants because Americans sell the United States as being a room for immmigrants to come and live the America but only when there is a need for workers is that idea sold but in any other way it is not. Only when the United States benefits from Americans are immigrants welcomed but when something bad is going in America especially the economy immigrants are used as scapegoats to be blamed.

Watching these video for the second time I had forgotten about how American citizens are also being deported. The video hiligthed and important statistic saying the around 20 thousand U.S Citizens have been deported since 2003 meaning that natural born citizens are deported too. America is deporting it’s own kind of people.

Eliminating the word “illegal” when refering to immigrants instead use undocumented. The word is used to dehumanize people lik using the word “alien” both are to refer to immigrants but those words in it’s own way are seem to make immmigrants feel less than Americans. But it’s sad to know that people are okay to call other people such degrading words to refer to them but they are still human and they shouldn’t be made to feel less than that
