With tthe DACA program, ending under Trumps administration it has been one of the major decisions against the undocumented community. He was prone to do that since during his trail for president he voiced his disapproval against the undocumented communityand talked about the changes that he was willing to make so that immigration would no longer be a problem for America and his whole “Make America Great Again” rhetoric that he continously preaches.
During these rigorous political climate both democrats and republicans have clearly voiced their opinions on immigration. Currently you have the democrats controlling the House and then the republicans are the ones in charge of the Senate. With these in mind in the current news it mentioned how a anti-immigrant bill (HB527) was just passed in the House and another bill (SB168) is heading to the Senate and these could potentionally mean that it could be brought up for a final vote on to the Senate floor.
In update for what has happened to both anti-immigrant bills the bill SB168 was passed in the Rules Committee in Florida and all democrats voted against it but all republicans voted to move it forward. And now these means that these bill is now heading to the house and it’s so close to being signed into law by the Florida’s governor.
And now that the majority of Florida Republicans are responsible for passing both bills that will sanction the racial progfiling of members of the undocumented community which will result in our undocumented neighbors , friends and loved ones will be erased and deported at a higher rate if this bill becomes law. Since SB168 would force local law enforcement to collaborate with ICE and CBP. And HB527 will mean that local government and their police departments (even campus police departments) would be required to hold an even be require to transport immigrants to ICE and CBP facilities.
These kind of bills makes me think that eventough we have made progress still the people in power are demanding anti-immigrant laws because of their xenophobia and lack of understanding the immigrant community holding an important role in America. It also makes me more aware to see the following candidates in my own state so I can be more attentive also during Midterm elections, eventough I can’t vote since I am not a citizen I still want to be aware or the kind of candidates no matter the importance I really want to know who will be in power especially if they have xenophobic ideals toward the immigrant community because I will know how to educate others who are able to vote and let their voice hear if they are candidates who only look forward to harm the immigrant community instead of helping them. We have as an example the current president who is in office and his anti-immigrant rhetoic and cabinet decisions speak for themselves about their personal feelings against the immigrant community.
